Gemalto has 15 production plants, around the world. Of these, Gemalto Oy is the plant focusing on the production of high-security ID products. The biometric and visual passports, identity cards, driving licenses, healthcare cards, and corporate cards produced in Vantaa require extremely strong know-how and state-of-the-art technology, and they are delivered to dozens of countries, all around the world.
The Vantaa production plant has the skills and technology needed to produce ID products from beginning to end, but it can also take care of just one part of the production chain. With biometric passports, for example, the company can print and bind the passport booklet, print the polycarbonate-based data page, and personalise the passport. The microprocessor chip can be embedded in the passport cover or on the data page, as desired by the customer.
Also, various types of identity cards granted by Finnish authorities are manufactured in Vantaa. These include electronic and visual ID cards, and social insurance cards. Corporate cards are another part of Gemalto Oy’s product selection. The cards are personalised, and they can even be sent directly to the end customer from the Vantaa site.
Payment and customer cards for Finnish banks and retail companies are also personalized in Vantaa. In addition to versatile high-end card solutions Vantaa production site offers its customers numerous value-added services.
The production team members work closely with the local research and development staff, since it is essential for them to know the product manufacturing process well, particularly in terms of material product development. High-security ID products are usually manufactured from polycarbonate or PET plastic. Any new visual security features are always tested and brought into production use first in Finland.
Gemalto is the only certified company in Finland specialized in high level security printing.
Gemalto has more than 120 years of experience in the production of security printing products in Finland. Of the approximately 400 employees in Vantaa, more than half work in production.
